Letter from the Editors
This piece was originally published in Contrast, McDaniel College's student-run literary magazine, where I was co-editor in 2011. When I wrote this, crackpots everywhere were obsessing over the Maya calendar and doomsday prophecies. It was a simpler time.
Dear Mutant Humanoids of the Future:
As the human race of the year 2011 is all too aware, the apocalypse is right around the corner. Right now, the world is pretty nice; water is sanitary, groceries are readily available and soil is not composed of nuclear ash. By the time you read this, however, our great cities and the wonders of nature will have all been flattened into the monochromatic hellscape that is your home. Surely, you must sometimes wish that your ancestors had not survived the Event. I understand. But perhaps you can find some semblance of comfort in these pages, something of the past to hold onto, some small hope for the future. You are strangers to us, but through the stories, poetry and artwork in this magazine, maybe we will not be strangers to you.
Sincerely,
Ed and Jake, Co-Editors
